According to Internet Live Stat, Google now processes over 3.5 billion searches per day and 1.2 trillion searches per year. That is a massive amount of searches, especially when put into the context of there being approximately 7.4 billion people on earth.
Therefore, one of the single best resources for analyzing new market directions and the relative importance of specific geographic regions is Google Trends.1 In addition to reflecting online search behavior, Google Trends is an excellent tool for geographic analysis.
In the analysis below, the term “cell therapy” is searched within Google Trends to produce fascinating global findings.
Below, the number of online searches for the term “cell therapy” is shown, with the data plotted over a 10-year period.
As indicated by the volatility of the search term, cell therapy applications represent an early-stage market, in which a single news story can drive up public interest in the topic, as evidenced by spikes in search volumes where there are letters.
Each letter from A to H indicates a news headline.
While those findings are interesting, it is also valuable to identify the specific countries where users are doing high volumes of “cell therapy” searches online. Note that the numbers shown in the images below represent the search volume within a country, relative to the highest point on the map, which is always 100.
Surprisingly, users within the Philippines perform the highest quantity of searches for the term “cell therapy,” followed by users within India, and then the United States. The image below presents the top seven results, showing that no European nation makes this cut-off.
However, if one scrolls down to see the final three results in this analysis (positions 8th, 9th, and 10th worldwide), then United Kingdom appears as the 9th most frequent country in which users perform online searches for “cell therapy.” See the image below, clipped to show only the final three results not shown in the image above (8th, 9th, and 10th place worldwide).
The importance of this analysis is that it identifies users within the United Kingdom as doing frequent searches for “cell therapy,” as compared to the rest of Europe. For companies involved with regenerative treatments, this suggests that individuals within the United Kingdom may be more receptive stem cell treatments, platelet-rich plasmas (PRP), bone marrow aspirate concentration (BMAC), autologous fat concentration, and similar.
For clarity, the order of the leading countries performing “cell therapy” searches online is shown below, along with their respective numbers from the Google Trends tool.
